Zettie was born on April 4, 1919. She was the seventh of eight children, born to
Anthony and Noela Swanson in Roanoke Alabama.
Zettie confessed Christ at an early age and joined Peace and Goodwill Baptist
Church where her family members in Roanoke.
In 1941 Zettie was united in a holy matrimony to Johnnie Lee Whitlow, and from
that union they had five children. They move to Vancouver Wa. then on to Portland Or.
In 1958 Zettie moved to Pasadena Ca.
She then joined Morning Star Baptist Church and later in 1962 joined Calvary
CME Church under the leadership of Rev.N.C Hashaway, where she remained a
member until her death. She loved Calvary Church.
Singing in the Gospel and Celestial choirs was one of her favorite things to do.
She also enjoyed working with the youth for a period of time. She enjoyed watching the
fashion and hat shows, as well as dressing up and wearing hats. Calvary's annual
Mammoth Tea was another favorite of hers diligent working on the committee s, to help
make it a success.
Zettie was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie Lee Whitlow, two
daughters Mary Alma Jackson, and Betty Jeane Wimberly.The Lord blessed Zettie to
live to be 97 years olds, she was the last of her siblings.
Zettie leaves to cherish her loving memories to her son Douglas Gary (Sharon) of
Inglewood, her two daughters Johnnie Whitlow, and Bonnie Whitlow both of Pasadena,
Ca. One sisterlaw Annie Whitlow of Portland Or. 13 grandchildren, 17
greatgrandchildren and 2 greatgreat grandchildren as well as beloved nieces,
nephews, and friends who will truly miss her.
