Obituary for Dr. Raleigh Henry Saddler MD

Dr. Raleigh Henry Saddler MD
Dr Raleigh Saddler passed away on September 3rd, 2017 after an eight year battle with multiple myeloma in the care of his loving wife Betty Ann Sadder..
He was the second of three children born to the late Raleigh Saddler, Sr. and Ernestine Lawrence. He was baptized at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. He spent his entire youth in Detroit, Michigan, where he graduated with honors from Chadsey High School. He later attended the University of Detroit where he was a chemistry major. After graduation, he taught chemistry at Northern High School for a year before attending Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Meharry in 1964. Raleigh completed his internship at the Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles and pursued a career in primary care after medical school. His medical career began with a four year commitment to the Navy, where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California. He later moved to Compton, California, where he joined the medical practice of Hubert Hemsley, M.D. at the Bethune Medical Center. Raleigh was a staunch supporter of the underprivileged, and provided medical care for many lower income families in the greater Los Angeles area. After 25 years of serving the community, he reluctantly closed his medical practice after Hubert’s death. Raleigh continued his medical service to the community after joining the L.A. county Sherriff’s department. When he retired at the age of 78, his career spanned 49 years.
Raleigh leaves his family to cherish the wonderful memories of his life. He is survived by his loving wife Betty Ann, children Raleigh III, Stephen, Brett, and Jennifer, grandchildren, Chloe, Celeste, Savannah, and Henry, and siblings, Beverly Langston and Reynolds Saddler.

The funeral Service for Raleigh will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11 am at the Woods-Valentine Mortuary, 1455 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena, CA. 91103.
